Nigel Coates
Nigel Coates, (Malvern, 1949) is an English architect. After his studies at the Architectural Association, he became an original force in design, leading him to design many buildings, interiors and exhibitions around the world, particularly in the UK and Japan. Coates immediately dedicated himself to the design of many furniture and lights for Italian companies, which today are also found in some museums such as the Victoria & Albert Museum, Cooper Hewitt and the FRAC. He is one of the protagonists of the new London School of Architecture. With the publication of some books, including: “Guide to Ecstasy” and “Narrative Architecture”, his personal idea of architecture is recognized internationally. For him, architecture is the balance between art and intelligence. Among the lighting bodies designed for SLAMP there are Lillibet, Medusa, Fiorellina, Ginetta, Aurora, Atlante, Fiorella, Dafne, Ecstacity, and Bios in the wall, suspension and table versions. All these lamps are inspired by the nature that surrounds us.
