Ernesto Gismondi is the founder and president of the Artemide Group. Gismondi graduated in Aeronautical Engineering in 1957 and then in Missile Engineering in 1959. In the 1960s, he began to design and manufacture lighting systems. Together with his colleague Sergio Mazza, he founded the design studio Artemide s.a.s out of which the Artemide Group developed, and which has now become one of the main international players in the field of lighting design. Winner of numerous awards and recognitions, such as the Golden Compass Career Award in 1994, the European Design Prize in 1997 and the Ernst & Young "Entrepreneur of the Year" Award in the Innovation and Communication categories in 2008 and 2009 respectively. Gismondi has also held numerous appointments as associate professor of Missile Engines at the Milan Polytechnic and vice-president of the ADI, member of the Educational Scientific Committee of the I.S.I.A. in Florence. He has held positions at Assolombarda, Federmeccanica, Confindustria, Ente Autonomo Fiera di Milano and at the Italian Ministry for Universities and Research. Among his numerous collections of designer lamps, we must mention Discovery, Febe, Flags, Molla, Effetto, Nur, Miconos, Metacolor, Illio, examples of technological innovation and quality as well as design.
