Gino Sarfatti
Gino Sarfatti, born in Venice in 1912, began his career as an aeronautical engineer but his life changed forever when family circumstances led him to move to Milan, where he had his first encounter with lighting. This meeting allowed him to discover a new world and to found his company, Arteluce, in 1939. Arteluce has become a point of reference for lighting design and engineering, winning numerous prizes and awards including the Compasso d'Oro in 1954 and 1955 and the Diploma of Honor from the Milan Triennale. Thanks to his creativity and his passion, Gino Sarfatti has continued to explore and be inspired by new product typologies, innovative materials, lighting technologies and production techniques. His hybrid talent of designer and engineer has allowed him to create lighting products of high quality, both in aesthetics and function. Throughout his career, he has developed more than 700 lighting fixtures, becoming a significant figure in the history of Italian industrial design. In 1973 he retired to Lake Como, with Flos acquiring Arteluce and their extensive catalogue. Gino Sarfatti died in Gravedona in 1985, leaving a legacy that will continue to inspire designers and engineers from all over the world. Among the most significant lighting projects we find the collection of lamps "Le Sfere" perfect for illuminating any type of space from sober corridors to luxurious private and commercial environments.
