Marcel Wanders

Marcel Wanders, one of the most influential designers in the world, was born in Amsterdam in 1963. His notoriety came in 1996 with the creation of the Knotted Chair for Droog Design, a work of art that has become a design icon and which makes now part of the permanent collection of the MoMA in New York. Since 1995, his studio in Amsterdam has been involved in numerous interior design and product design projects, collaborating with private clients and world-renowned companies such as Alessi, B&B Italia and Louis Vuitton. But Wanders is not limited only to product design. In 2001 founded Moooi, a brand that focuses on the beauty of its products. The collections range from sofas to lamps and from wardrobes to tables, reflecting the unconventional and eccentric spirit that characterizes Wanders' poetics. In 2005, together with chef Peter Lute, he developed the concept of "Lute Suites", the first "all over city suites" hotel in Amsterdam. His best known products include the Sky Garden lamp by Flos, the Circus tableware series for Alessi, the Pebbles chairs for Bisazza and the Gentlemen Collection for Poliform. Wanders' works are present in the most important art and design museums, such as the Center Pompidou in Paris, the V&A Museum in London and the MoMA in New York. Wanders' design is characterized by a bold and ironic style that combines artisan inspiration and contemporary orientation, human dimension and industrial scope. His dream language interprets design as a romantic and anthropocentric project, respecting the past and cultural differences. Wanders transforms his projects into unique works of art, recognized worldwide as a symbol of beauty and innovation. For Qeeboo he designed the Mabelle suspension lamp. With its sinuous and enveloping shapes of the arch and dome, this design lamp creates a suggestive and sophisticated atmosphere, perfect for enriching any room in the house.
